Welcome and thank you for visiting supportedrecoveryasia.com. This site is a place to find hope of recovery from an eating disorder and a place to find suggested support methods and services in Asia. My name is Pam, I have found recovery from my eating disorder while living in Hong Kong. On my blog, you will get a glimpse inside the dark side of my eating disorder and a better understanding of the reasons so many remain sufferers remain silent and isolated. My story will differ from that of others in some ways but I am learning in recovery that my story is far from unique. This battle is faced by many women (and men) all over the world. I hope that by sharing my story of illness and recovery, I may inspire others to seek help and choose life.
First off, I have some good news and I have some bad news for you. Which would you like to hear first?
The bad news? Best get it over with, you’re right. The bad news is that, if like me, you live in central Asia (Hi from Hong Kong!) and are looking to find recovery from an eating disorder, then you probably already know that finding help and hope here is far from easy. There is a drought out there when it comes to finding appropriate support for the many facets of an eating disorder. You can look forward to some incredulous looks of ‘why can’t you just get over it, it’s only eating right?’, or find yourself receiving treatment for your symptoms only to find that you are still trapped in your mind. You may be frustrated at the ‘wellness’ industry and fad diets and exercise programs that seem to work perfectly well for every other ‘Jane Doh’ you know, but leave you depressed and demoralized. Check out my page on finding help in Asia for more details on the unique challenges we face and suggestions on how to overcome them.
The good news is that you are not alone and recovery is possible. You can take steps in the right direction straight away. Check out my introduction to finding help or have a look at the self-help tools that may get you started. I don’t want you to wait to take the first step.
Time for recovery is now. Check out my blog posts on LIFE for what great things are in store for you beyond your eating disorder.
